Hugo Lloris has two lengthy interviews in the French media on Monday. He’s spoken to both L’Equipe and France Football, with the majority of the questions being about how Covid-19 has impacted football.

The Tottenham player was asked repeatedly about the Premier League returning and his feelings on that, and made it clear the situation is very confused.

Lloris told France Football that there seems to be a new idea every day in England on how the league can end, and he suggested that given some other leagues around Europe have ended, that could be the way things ultimately proceed in England.

Asked if France’s Ligue 1 made the right decision to call the championship off, the Spurs goalkeeper replied: “If we cannot put the players in the best conditions in order to respect the sanitary rules, the most appropriate choice is to stop everything. We are not there yet in England. We’ll see what happens. But, after the Netherlands, Belgium and now France, we will see how the other championships will react.”

There’s been some mild transfer rumours around the Tottenham captain, mainly pushed from France.

France Football asked Lloris if he feels like this is the right summer for a change, and he managed to completely dodge the question in a polite way: “I’m not so focused on my personal situation right now. The period is so crazy… Frankly, I don’t think I have the necessary perspective to be able to reflect on my personal situation. I’m more hopeful of finishing the season, and to finish as high as possible.”

Like many people, Lloris is already thinking about what he wants to do when the Covid-19 restrictions have passed, and his wish is to return home and see the people he misses most: “I will take my wife and children on a plane to Nice to see the family. In a situation like this, you want to be in contact with your loved ones. The phone or video is not enough. I see it with to my youngest. He is already seven months old, growing up, but has not yet gotten used to certain faces. It is not easy. So, we will jump on a plane to go visit the family.”
