Germany boss Julian Nagelsmann has hailed Brighton and Hove Albion’s Pascal Groß as “the perfect person” for his plans for the national team moving forwards.
Nagelsmann has been speaking to the press following Germany’s 2-0 loss to Austria on Tuesday, with the comments relayed by the official German website.
Naturally after such a big and demoralising defeat, questions are once again being raised about the state of the German team ahead of them hosting the Euros next summer.
Nagelsmann was brought in with the hope of reviving their fortunes after something of a disappointing spell under Hansi Flick, who was unable to turn them back into the dominant force that they once were.
It’s been an inauspicious start in charge for the 36-year-old so far, with one win, one draw and two defeats in his four games to date, with those defeats coming back-to-back against Turkey and now Austria.
So far, he’s only started one of the four games, incidentally the first game win over the USA, but it appears Nagelsmann has big plans for the Brighton man moving forwards.
“We already have some in the squad,” he said in regard to a question about his side needing more workers.
“Leon Goretzka gave it his all, Robert Andrich played great, Grischa Prömel is exactly that, he became a professional because of that.
“Pascal Groß is the perfect person for this; I have rarely seen a professional who doesn’t take himself so seriously. Jo Kimmich is also someone who throws himself into it. We have a few there.
“But if I say too much now there will be headlines, I don’t want that. When you see all the talent we have, all the magicians – they’ll be fine if it hasn’t been going the way it’s been going for years. Maybe we have to give up two percentage points of talent and throw in two more ‘workers’.”
