Grasshopper Club Zurich manager Gerald Scheiblehner has told the Swiss media he’s happy they’ve signed Michael Frey from QPR.

This week it was confirmed the 31-year-old would be leaving QPR after two seasons with the club. He’s signed a two year contract with his new side.

Speaking to Blick, the Grasshopper coach was asked about finally signing the QPR forward after being linked with him throughout the window.

Scheiblehner said the Swiss attacker will be able to adapt to his team and also bring experience.

“We think he’s a perfect fit for us. It covers a lot of things we were looking for. He brings experience and is very dangerous in front of goal. He also fits in very well with the club in terms of mentality,” said the Swiss coach.

The 48-year-old was then asked if plans to use Frey this weekend. He responded by explaining the player is ready to face Lugano on Saturday. Scheiblehner said the forward’s fitness levels are fine and he’s arrived from QPR in good shape.

“Although he has not yet played a game in the 2026 calendar year, fitness is not an issue. He is fit and highly motivated and fully trained, I’m really not worried about that,” revealed Scheiblehner.

Frey signed for QPR from Royal Antwerp F.C. during the 2004 January transfer window. The former Switzerland international scored on his debut for the West London club in their 2-2 draw against Norwich City.

He went on to make 53 appearances in all competitions during his time at Loftus Road, scoring ten goals.
