Boca Juniors’ Valentín Barco continues to be a target for Brighton & Hove Albion after they failed with their efforts to secure his services in the past.
His deal expires in December 2024 and it includes a $10m release clause. On Tuesday, Olé reported the Seagulls are ready to activate the clause as they are aware it’s not easy for Boca to renew the 19-year-old’s contract.
Brighton’s Facundo Buonanotte has been speaking to D Sports, relayed by TyC Sports, and has urged Barco to consider a move to The Amex.
The Premier League side signed the Argentine international from Rosario Central at the start of this year and he’s made 27 appearances since, managing two goals and two assists in the process.
Manchester City are among the clubs credited with an interest in Barco, but the Brighton midfielder has explained why it’s best for his compatriot to join Roberto De Zerbi’s side.
“Obviously, the decision is his, but as I am here, it’s a club that gives many opportunities. It’s not that he’s going to come here and not play, he’s always going to have the opportunity and then it’s up to him,” he said.
“It’s a private decision that he will make with his family and his people, but this is a great club to start in Europe. Both in terms of football and the people who work there are very good people. It’s a perfect club that welcomes you very well, and more so to the young people.”
On Tuesday, journalist Facundo Pérez reported Boca Juniors will make a last-ditch effort to renew Barco’s contract and stop him from joining Brighton.
Barco has been used as a winger, left wing-back and left-back this year, and has managed a goal and two assists from 32 matches.
