Every summer, Pep Guardiola plays at charity golf events in Spain, and every summer the Spanish media descend on them trying to get soundbites.
The Manchester City manager often provides them, being in a more relaxed mood than he generally is during the course of the season.
Usually, there’s a question, or ten, about Barcelona, and one will always relate to him potentially returning to the Catalan side. Guardiola had huge success when in charge at the Camp Nou, and many have expected him to return one day to try and do it all again.
However, Barcelona’s finances are very different these days, and they don’t have the golden generation headed by a certain Lionel Messi, so the prospect isn’t as attractive as it once was.
So when Guardiola was again asked if he’ll return to Barcelona as manager or if the door is closed, he was clear with his answer. Marca quote the Manchester City manager as saying: “Yes, it is closed, we’re older now.”
He sent his best wishes to new Barca manager Hansi Flick, said there’s been no offers for Bernardo Silva, and insinuated tough negotiations could be on the way to sort out where Joao Cancelo will play next season.
