At the beginning of November, Bayern Munich fired Niko Kovač and appointed Hans-Dieter Flick as their interim manager.
Sport Bild claims the Bundesliga winners have shortlisted three candidates to take the role next summer, and the list is Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola, Paris Saint-Germain’s Thomas Tuchel and Ajax manager Erik ten Hag.
The Manchester City manager was at the Allianz Arena for three seasons between 2013 and 2016 and the Bayern bosses have been in regular contact with him since he left the club.
Guardiola has a contract at the Etihad until 2021, but the report states he is ‘no longer happy’ at the Etihad.
Sport Bild states Bayern doesn’t rule out the possibility of Guardiola returning to the club, especially with their desire to spend big on players. One of the indications is their ongoing interest in Manchester City star Leroy Sané, who is rated around €100m.
Guardiola’s first preference is to manage a national team after leaving City and he has maintained good contacts with Qatar.
Therefore, Sport Bild states ‘A Guardiola commitment in the summer would therefore be a surprise coup for FC Bayern.’
If Bayern can’t convince Guardiola to join them, they would look at Tuchel or Ten Hag.
