We’re all for managers broadening their horizons, but in the case of former Birmingham City manager Pep Clotet, his latest venture will certainly raise eyebrows.
The Spanish coach has just been confirmed as the new manager of Russian side Torpedo, with the Russian Premier Liga side confirming his appointment today.
Clotet arrives after leaving Italian side Brescia last month after managing three games back at the Italian club in a short-lived third spell following a 20 game time at the club between July 2022 and December 2022.
Before that he had been with SPAL for 19 games between July 2021 and January 2022, having moved there after his first time in charge of Brescia, which lasted just 18 games.
Indeed the Spanish coach has been struggling to establish himself anywhere since his time in charge at Birmingham City came to an end in July 2020.
He had initially made a very positive impression with the Blues after stepping up from an assistant manager role in July 2019 but that soon dwindled out and he left Birmingham City 17th in the table and just four points away from the relegation zone that year.
His job now is to get Torpedo off the bottom of the table, although with his side already seven points behind 14th placed Fakel, it will take an incredible turnaround for Clotet, who has been struggling to make things work since his Birmingham departure.
