Newcastle United are not falling behind in the race for Napoli star Victor Osimhen.
As the 24-year-old takes large steps to be one of the protagonists of the summer market, comments in the Italian media today detail the competition for his signing.
Osimhen’s situation was explained by Carlo Jacomuzzi, who, speaking to 1 Station Radio, claimed Newcastle will be fighting other Premier League sides for that transfer.
“Osimhen in the Premier League? It all depends on the request from the blue club. It’s an entirely economic problem, since I believe there are clubs ready to buy him. There are many clubs capable of shelling out large sums, as well City and United also pay attention to Newcastle in this sense,” said Carlo Jacomuzzi on 1 Station Radio (via Calcio Napoli 1926).
“We’re talking about a player with undisputed qualities who I consider ready to make the leap into the English league. Attacking depth systematically is a characteristic that properly pertains to English football. Among all clubs, it’s Newcastle who are one of those who make use of this principle of play.”
Victor Osimhen currently has 21 goals and four assists in 26 appearances for Napoli’s this season, not only making him the top scorer in the Serie A, but also keeping his side on top of the table.
The striker is currently valued by Transfermarkt at €70m, but considering the many European giants who’ve been linked to him in the past few weeks, it’s hard to imagine club president Aurelio De Laurentiis letting him go for less than double that.
Especially because the player still has a contract running until 2025, and the Italian club could well claim they’d like to keep him for at least another year, forcing clubs like Newcastle to have to dig deep in their bank accounts.
