Around the time Harry Kane was being linked with a move to Bayern Munich, Tottenham were said to be considering replacing him with Feyenoord’s Santiago Giménez.

They never did so, and the Mexico international had a sensational start to the campaign, as he scored 19 goals in his first 17 league games.

However, that has changed over the past three matches, where he has failed to find the back of the net, and looks a shadow of his former self, the one Tottenham wanted, as pointed out by journalist Maarten Wijffels for Algemeen Dagblad, relayed by SoccerNews.

This has been something of a pattern for more than one Feyenoord player, but it has been mostly seen in Giménez, who ‘really doesn’t hit anything anymore’.

There is a fear that the Mexican could end up being a repeat of Nicolai Jorgensen, who had the chance to move to Newcastle in 2016/17, but never did, and never found his form again.

While Wijffels believes it might be a bit too early, for that, he still cannot believe the change in form and attitude in Giménez, who could end up being a ‘million-dollar fiasco’.

He said: “There is really nothing left at all. If you see how he sits there after his substitution, there really is a pathetic pile of a man. Of course, you might hit a goal again and you might be on your way, but still. Players also look at you like ‘heads up pal, you could do with doing a bit more’. The decay is really quite big.”

In short, it appears that either Giménez is simply suffering from a bout of poor form, or something has changed in his attitude, perhaps because of a failed transfer somewhere?

Either way, if Tottenham are really interested in signing the Mexican in the summer, as some have suggested might be the case, then this is a situation they will want to follow closely in the coming weeks and months.

If nothing changes, it could be that Ange Postecoglou and those around decide to go after someone other than the 22-year-old, despite claims he was one of the favourites to bolster the attack at Spurs.
