Injured for the last couple of games, Tanguy Ndombele, currently on loan at Galatasaray from Tottenham, was able to earn a little bit of respite from the criticism sent his way by the Turkish media.
However, he wasn’t able to avoid it completely, as not only his transfer has failed, but those of Hakim Ziyech, Tete and Wilfried Zaha have also failed to produce results.
The Tottenham loanee was one of those criticised by Tugay Kerimoğlu on Monday, who spoke after the game won by Galatasaray 2-1 against Antalyaspor, relayed by Yenicag Gazetesi.
His anger was aimed at the four big foreign transfers made by the Süper Lig side last summer, with none of them really panning out to date.
He said: “How many matches has Tete played? He’s not physically in decline because he has not played as many matches as the others. Zaha is the same. Where are Ziyech and Ndombele? I cannot afford to badmouth the other players. You cannot be so careless. It seems to me that a virus has entered the team.”
The Blackburn icon then doubled down on the fact the big names aren’t turning up, and urged Galatasaray to get rid of them as soon as possible.
Tugay added: “If you cannot get the results from four players you have high expectations from, stop letting them train, thank them at the end of the season and part ways. They are starting to cause harm now.”
Since joining the Turkish club on loan from Tottenham, Ndombele has struggled to make a name for himself at the club, often coming off the bench instead of starting games.
For a player Galatasaray are paying a lot of money for in terms of wages, there were expectations that simply haven’t been met, which is why he is facing this vitriol from pundits and journalists alike.
