Paris FC’s firm desire to sign Marseille’s Mason Greenwood in the summer can benefit Manchester United.
The forward came through the ranks of Manchester United’s academy, and they sold him to Marseille in July 2024.
He didn’t make an appearance for the Premier League side after January 2022. At that time, the Red Devils suspended him over accusations of domestic abuse and sexual violence.
All charges against the 24-year-old were dropped in February 2023, but he still didn’t play for Manchester United again. The details here explain the Greenwood situation before his loan move.
The Old Trafford club let him spend the 2023/24 season on loan at Getafe before selling him to the Ligue 1 side.
Greenwood managed 47 goals and 16 assists from 77 matches for Marseille, and 25 goals and 10 assists are from this season.
His Ligue 1 stats this season are as follows:
- Appearances: 28
- Starts: 26
- Total Minutes: 2,175
- Minutes per game: 78
- Goals: 15
- Assists: 6
- Expected Goals: 12.86
- Expected Assists: 5,29
- Big chances created: 12
- Big chances missed: 4
Growing interest in Greenwood
Last month, Sport Witness covered claims from Italy of Juventus’ interest in Greenwood.
But! Football Club report Paris FC are keen on Mason Greenwood and question whether a ‘madness’ is in sight for the summer.
The Ligue 1 side are preparing their first offer to try and sign him. The fee isn’t mentioned but isn’t enough to convince Marseille. The latter are clear the former Manchester United man won’t leave for cheap.
Paris FC aren’t giving up yet and are first working on convincing the forward with a ‘huge signing of bonus’ and a salary in line with their current structure.
Again, the report makes no mention of figures, but insist it’ll be ‘hard to ignore’. The Paris club are also using their sporting project to tempt the attacker.
Marseille have no plan to sell unless there’s an irresistible offer. Without that, it’s difficult for them to sell Greenwood, more so to another Ligue 1 side. In short, this is a clear warning to Paris FC.
There’s no mention of the player’s preference for the summer or if he’s willing to leave his current club.
Manchester United sell-on clause
In July 2025, Sport Witness covered claims from France that the Red Devils retain a 50% sell-on clause.
The exact figure isn’t made official, but the percentage is believed to be high. Therefore, Marseille are demanding a hefty fee to consider selling him.
If Paris FC were to do a ‘madness’ and sign Mason Greenwood in a big money deal, it can, in return benefit Manchester United.
His contract at Marseille expires in 2029, and Transfermarkt value him at €55m.
