Among the several clubs Nicolo Zaniolo has recently got linked to, there were Tottenham Hotspur.
The Premier League side were said to be one of the many clubs who wanted to take the midfielder from Roma, but once faced the Giallorossi’s requests for the sale, they could not get to a deal.
Zaniolo still hasn’t reached an agreement with anyone, turning down Bournemouth, and that’s why the club are looking for offers in the final days of the transfer window.
And it turns out that Tottenham director Fabio Paratici had a special plan to sign him for a cheaper amount. That’s today revealed by journalist Sandro Sabatini on Italia 1.
It was claimed the Spurs official got in touch with Zaniolo to suggest the best plan to make his move to London possible.
“I have an exclusive background on the player. He had received a message from Paratici,” Sabatini told Italia 1 (via Area Napoli).
“I take responsibility for it, this is Paratici’s method. Only that Zaniolo had a moment of indecision when they made him believe that Milan were interested. So he was left without Tottenham and without Milan.”
Zaniolo indeed got close to the exit door at Roma, but that was apparently not enough for Tottenham to reach a deal for his signing.
Area Napoli points out that clubs are still to place satisfying bids for the midfielder, as the only who made that were Bournemouth, but that no longer appears to be an option for the player, who has decided to ignore the Cherries’ advances.
