Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has already stated he wants a new midfielder and an attacker before the transfer window closes.
The first one has been sorted out as the Red Devils have agreed a deal with Real Madrid for Casemiro.
Ten Hag has his eyes set on his former player, Antony, to bolster Manchester United’s attack.
They have seen their €80m bid get turned down by Ajax and are now willing to make a new offer to take the winger away from the Amsterdam club.
Recent claims in the Dutch press have stated the Eredivisie winners want €100m for the Brazil international.
Journalist Geert Langendorff, who focuses his coverage on English football, shared his views on this case to NOS’ program, Studio Voetbal.
“They are now so panicked at United that they are discussing internally whether Antony is worth 100 million. Given the sporting misery and unrest among supporters, they seem willing to do so,” Langendorff said.
Manchester United are also credited with an interest in PSV Eindhoven star Cody Gakpo. Former Netherlands international Pierre van Hooijdonk gives his take on who Ten Hag’s side should sign between his compatriot and Antony.
“With Gakpo you don’t get a player who immediately strengthens the team, with Antony you do,” Van Hooijdonk explained.
United suffered two defeats in their first two matches and face Liverpool today. A loss at the hands of the Reds could make it difficult for Ten Hag.
“If they lose, the big question is how they lose. A 1-0 is accepted. If it gets worse, the pressure on Ten Hag will increase. There must be an improvement compared to last season, when it became 4-0 and 5-0 for Liverpool,” Langendorff stressed.
