Real Madrid, well, their associated media, appear to be working themselves into a panic over the potential Qatari takeover at Manchester United, with claims it will spark a ‘wild offer’ for Kylian Mbappe.
Spanish journalist Edu Aguirre has provided his stance on the situation around the Frenchman today, albeit in rather dramatic fashion.
Mbappe appears to be going head-to-head with Paris Saint Germain this summer after formally telling the French club he will not be extending his contract to 2025.
That means his current deal will be expiring next summer, which seems likely to set up a big move this summer, with PSG unlikely to want to lose their superstar player on a free transfer in a year’s time.
Real Madrid would be the logical destination for him given their pursuit of the forward last summer and the fact they need to replace Karim Benzema, who has left for Saudi Arabia.
Manchester United have been surprisingly thrown into the mix in the last week or so, though, with several big claims that if they were taken over by Sheikh Jassim bin Mohammed Al Thani, he would make Mbappe the number one target.
That’s certainly something they believe in Madrid, where Aguirre commented on the situation and displayed the general panic that seems to be sweeping through the Spanish media, and perhaps Madrid themselves.
“Qatar is leaving aside the Paris Saint Germain project, this summer is very different,” he said.
“They are not going to go all in to keep Mbappe because Qatar is going to get involved in the Premier League. To get fully into Manchester United they want to copy the model of the United Arab Emirates, i.e., Manchester City.
“The investment Qatar is going to make in Manchester United is wild. Jassim bin Mohammed Al Thani, the brother of the Emir of Qatar, wants Mbappe.
“This summer they (Real Madrid) have to move fast because it is more than likely that United will come in with a wild offer for Kylian Mbappe.”
