Manchester United midfielder Casemiro could have an even bigger role at the Brazilian national team from now on.

That’s because following the arrival of caretaker manager Ramon Menezes, the 31-year-old should be their captain, at least in these initial games.

All of his importance was discussed in an interview he had with UOL today.

There, they spoke about all the moment the Seleção has been through, with the departure of a manager following the elimination to Croatia in the 2022 World Cup.

It turns out that this specific game is something that means a lot for the Manchester United player.

He was asked about returning to the national team for the first time after the tournament in Qatar, and talked about the scars the players still have from that defeat.

“Speaking of the defeat, without a doubt, it was the defeat that hurt the most. A defeat that I couldn’t take much for granted, I had to play a week later. Keep talking, rethinking, it’s not in my character. We imagine a thousand possibilities, but it’s football, life, decision-making at the moment.”

“I don’t dwell on it, there are millions of possibilities, waking up sooner or later… I don’t rethink what I’ve done and live in the present. This is the present, good work today and tomorrow a great game. It hurts, it’s painful, the defeat that hurt the most, but without a doubt I’m thinking about the next one”.

Brazil are only playing one game in the international break, as they face Morocco in a friendly on Saturday.

It’s unlikely that they will announce the next manager until the summer, especially because Real Madrid’s Carlo Ancelotti seems to be the main target for the job.

Casemiro is back in action with Manchester United on the 2nd of April, when the Red Devils play Newcastle.
