Tottenham Hotspur aren’t having a great season in the Premier League and after their 2-0 loss to Fulham at the weekend, they dropped to 14th in the table.
As of now, the Europa League remains their only shot at winning a trophy.
Tottenham haven’t exactly got a stellar record of winning trophies in recent decades, something they’re often reminded about by rivals.
A dig from a great distance has now arrived for Tottenham Hotspur from Inter Milan legend Beppe Bergomi, who was asked by Gazzetta dello Sport about comparisons between Atalanta’s march towards a potential Serie A title win and Leicester City’s Premier League title win in the 2015/16 season.
He said, as relayed by FCInter1908: “The miracle is more difficult for Atalanta. Leicester was fighting with Tottenham, not a winning club by definition.
“Atalanta is fighting with Inter, who are among the top eight in Europe, and Napoli, who won the Scudetto two years ago.”
Bergami does make a fair point, especially considering that Inter Milan are the reigning Italian champions and have also made it to the quarterfinals of the Champions League.
Under Mauricio Pochettino, Tottenham were certainly a force but Inter have been one of the best teams in Europe over the past few years, and a very strong club record of winning trophies.
Besides, the Nerazzurri’s win over Atalanta at the weekend puts them well in control of the title race in Serie A.
