Victor Orta may make a move for Real Madrid legend Raúl to be Sevilla’s next manager, having once eyed up him for the manager’s job at Leeds United.
That’s according to journalist Samuel Silva, who says the Real Madrid youth coach is on the list of options being considered by the Sevilla director of football.
He and fellow journalist Alonso Rivero report that Sevilla are moving in the coaching market ahead of the summer when they expect to part ways with Quique Sanchez Flores.
They explain that three candidates currently stand above the rest, Enzo Maresca, Jagoba Arrasate and Raúl González Blanco.
All three have very favourable reports in the Nervión offices, where a decision has not yet been made on who will lead the team forwards.
Raúl, though, is the favourite for director of football Victor Orta, who he already enjoys a magnificent relationship with.
Indeed, he already tried to hire him at Leeds when he was in charge of matters at Elland Road. That never happened as Raúl wanted to stay at Real Madrid but his appreciation for him has not gone and now he’d like to work with him at Sevilla.
It’s not the first time we’ve heard this with Orta, who doesn’t seem to have changed his plans since things went awry at Leeds and is instead recycling most of the ideas he had at Elland Road.
Raúl would be one of them and it remains to be seen if he wants to leave his comfort at the Bernabeu and link up with Orta or remain where he is.
