Paul Pogba is unlikely to feature again for Manchester United this year after picking up an injury at the start of this week.

The midfielder’s contract expires in 2022 and Marca say the latest setback ‘may be the latest reason’ why he thinks his time at Old Trafford is ‘over’.

He has struggled with injuries over the past few years and the one suffered at Clairefontaine is a ‘serious setback’ in the 28-year-old’s quest to earn his last big contract.

Real Madrid are ‘very attentive’ to the France international’s situation as Marca’s title says it’s ‘now or never’ for the player to join the La Liga side.

The option to sign the former Juventus star is still ‘on the table’ for Los Blancos, along with AS Monaco’s Aurélien Tchouaméni.

The Ligue 1 man can be a player for the future, while Pogba is seen as an ‘immediate replacement’ for some currently at the Bernabéu, ‘especially Luka Modrić’. The Red Devils star fits into Real Madrid’s sporting plans, but his wages could be an issue for them.

He earns €12m per year at Manchester United, according to the report. The World Cup winner’s idea is to land one last big contract and also collect a signing on bonus next summer, if he decides against renewing his contract with the English club.

Pogba’s wage demands will be higher than that of the ‘future footballer’ Tchouaméni.

Although they are ‘very attentive’ to Pogba, Marca make clear Real Madrid view him as one of the options to replace current midfielders, like Modrić. The Spanish giants are also not sure about signing the United player, mainly due to his high salary request.

Meanwhile, Pogba also has other options, like joining Paris Saint-Germain, Juventus or signing a new deal at United.
