Dani Olmo took a huge career risk when at just 16 years of age he left Barcelona to sign for Dinamo Zagreb.

He’d been in the Barca system since nine years of age, yet felt his development, and chances of first team football, would be better served by a move to Croatian football.

The gamble paid off, it didn’t take Olmo long to make his debut for Dinamo, and at the age of 21 he’s now a full Spanish international.

Earlier this year, the youngster impressed at UEFA’s U21 Championship, and that started the transfer tongues wagging in his home country. There were claims of a potential move during the summer window, yet the price Dinamo were asking put suitors off.

Now he’s progressed further and appeared for his country, the estimated €40m being asked doesn’t seem so unreasonable.

Barcelona have been linked with a swoop to take their former player back, and when speaking to Olmo, Mundo Deportivo asked about a return to the Camp Nou.

“We’ll see what can happen,” replied Olmo. “But it is an open door. I don’t close the door to any club. Today I am a Dinamo player and what has to happen in the future will be seen.”

That sounds like some mild transfer flirting.

A transfer is thought to be on the way, with Dinamo even hinting at such themselves, it’s just a case of where Olmo goes and whether the move happens in January or next summer.
