Florian Wirtz is currently sunning himself somewhere as the final details of his move to Liverpool, in a package which could reach €150m, are sorted out.
Kicker report everything is sorted out for the player to swap Bayer Leverkusen for Liverpool, and ‘only the medical is missing’ for the huge transfer to be completed.
Once the 22-year-old decided he wanted to join Liverpool over other options, with Bayern Munich having been keen for a long time, it was a matter of the Reds agreeing a fee with the Bundesliga side.
Bayer Leverkusen have long told the German media they wanted a package worth €150m for the youngster, but few believed they’d get anything close given how unusual it is to pay such a high fee.
Negotiations have gone their way and Kicker report the €150m includes bonuses which are easy to achieve, as well as more difficult ones such as Liverpool winning the Champions League.
The move breaks Bayer Leverkusen’s record sale, which had been Kai Havertz’s 2020 transfer to Chelsea. That got them a €80m fixed fee plus €20m in bonuses, including for Chelsea winning the Champions League in 2021.
Havertz then moved to Arsenal for a little over €70m in 2023.
Kicker round their article off by stating: ‘Wirtz, who is currently on vacation, still has to complete the mandatory medical at LFC. Following the agreement between Liverpool FC and Bayer 04, the contract documents in German and English must now be finalised, reviewed, and signed. Then the most expensive transfer in both Bundesliga and Premier League history will be complete.’
