Everton’s Beto has told Gianluca Di Marzio that he is optimistic of representing Portugal if he were to impress in the Premier League.
After spending three years at Udinese, the striker joined the Merseyside club in the last window.
He has scored one goal and registered one assist from 11 games for Everton and both of them came in the EFL Cup. The striker hasn’t yet found the back of the net in the league from eight games.
The 25-year-old has yet to receive a call-up from the national team and believes his move to Goodison Park could help him achieve it at some stage in the future.
“I don’t think about it too much because I have to do well on the pitch. If I do well, I can think about it, otherwise it’s useless,” he said.
When asked about his idol, the former Udinese man mentioned Champions League winner with Barcelona and Inter Milan, Samuel Eto’o, who was at Everton during the 2014/15 season.
“My idol is Samuel Eto’o, even though we have different playing styles. I don’t take inspiration from any player in particular where I say to myself ‘I want to do like him ‘, no. I play my way, the Beto way,” Beto explained.
The frontman is of the belief he can contribute more at Everton and also stated he wants to focus on improving his own form gradually.
“As I said before, every player can always do more. And I’m honest: I think I can do more. Now I’m at Everton and I’ll have to continue working to improve myself. But one step at a time,” he added.
