This morning, we covered a report from Marca who claimed Chelsea are closing in on signing AS Roma goalkeeper Alisson Becker.
The Brazil international has been linked with a move to Real Madrid and Liverpool, with the Champions League winners believed to be the player’s choice to join this summer.
However, Marca’s report suggested the FA Cup winners are serious about Alisson and said the Blues are the closest to meeting the Italian club’s €70m valuation.
Chelsea already have the services of Thibaut Courtois as their first choice stopper at Stamford Bridge. The Belgian’s contract at the London club will expire in 2019 and he hasn’t signed a new deal with the Premier League side.
Another report from Marca now claims Chelsea’s effort in the big signing of Alisson will have a ‘domino effect’ at several other European clubs, including Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid. Also, the South American’s arrival would see Courtois allowed to leave this summer.
Chelsea could cash in from Courtois sale and use the funds to pay part of Alisson’s fee. It’s state the Blues value their goalkeeper around €50m and he is a target for both the Madrid clubs.
Atletico have Jan Oblak and he’s been linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain. If Oblak joins PSG, then Diego Simeone’s side could make an approach for Courtois, who spent three seasons on loan at the club.
The 26-year-old Chelsea player’s children live in Madrid and he’s keen on returning to Spain.
