Tottenham sold Emerson Royal to AC Milan in the summer transfer window.

The Brazilian had an unimpressive three-year-long stint at the London side and he hasn’t quite made a mark at his new club either.

His performances have come under criticism over the last few months and former Italy defender Giancarlo Marocchi has spoken about the right-back.

In a chat with Sky Sport 24, Marocchi described signing the ex-Tottenham man as a massive mistake by Milan and criticised the Rossoneri for selling Pierre Kalulu to Juventus.

He said, as relayed by PianetaMilan: “Emerson was one of the biggest mistakes on the market. To improve last year’s team, it was decided that it was enough to remove Calabria and put in a right back. Treating Calabria like this – three years ago Calabria won the championship as a starter.”

Speaking further, he said: “Deciding that the problem was that seems offensive to me. Take Emerson Royal on the right who doesn’t perform and you have no one, because you also gave away Kalulu.”

The 25-year-old Emerson was signed as a replacement for the struggling Davide Calabria but has not proved to be an upgrade.

Tottenham saw similar indications but despite that, they managed to earn €15m from his sale.

This is a transfer AC Milan’s local media keeps returning to as being a sign of recent bad business by the club.
