PSV Eindhoven midfielder Joey Veerman has insisted they will need to step up if they are to face Arsenal in the next round of the Champions League.
NOS cover comments from the Dutchman today after they knocked out Juventus in the Champions League.
They completed a good week for the Dutch sides in the competition as Feyenoord also progressed to the latter stages.
The next round of the newly formatted competition will see them taking on either Arsenal or Inter Milan, with the draw yet to be made to determine.
Manager Peter Bosz commented after the game that Inter Milan would be a step up and Veerman echoed that but was keen to compliment Arsenal as well.
“Let people understand that. People sometimes laugh about us, but we are through, and Feyenoord is through,” NOS report him saying after the win over Juventus.
“In addition, AZ, FC Twente and Ajax are doing well, so I think things are going well. Arsenal is one of the best teams in the world and I think Inter played the Champions League final two seasons ago. So that will be a difficult two-match series, but we are confident.”
Of course, Veerman and PSV may be more confident given the injury situation at Arsenal at present which has threatened to derail the second half of their season.
With no fit striker in the squad now, and the likes of Mikel Merino filling the void in the win over Leicester, now may be an ideal time to pull the Gunners from the hat and perhaps pull off another shock.
