The Brazilian media is today full of stories about a Manchester United player who would like to play for Flamengo.

That’s Nemanja Matic, who in an interview with TNT Sports last night, revealed the affection he has for the Rio de Janeiro side.

The 33-year-old, who captained Manchester United in the 1-1 draw against Young Boys in the Champions League, gave a full interview in fluent Portuguese, remembering the years he lived in Lisbon when playing for Benfica.

With reporter Fred Caldeira praising Matic for how good he still speaks the language, the journalist claimed he could move to Brazil with no problems.

That’s when the Manchester United player said there’s only one club he’d play for in the South American country, as one of his idols used to play there.

“Only Flamengo. Only Flamengo. The only one. I like Dejan Petkovic. A hug to everyone,” Matic told TNT Sports, referring to the former Serbian playmaker who spent four years of his career at the Brazilian side over two different spells.

With Flamengo having a huge media coverage in Brazil, the stories with Matic’s quotes soon took over the local press. Meanwhile, Flamengo have another Manchester United midfielder in the squad, as Andreas Pereira is loaned to the club until the next summer.
