New Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner has revealed he’s already made one major change at the club after replacing Roy Hodgson, as well as the message he’s given the club’s ownership.
The Austrian coach has been speaking to Sky Germany about the task ahead at Crystal Palace after taking charge at Selhurst Park last week.
The 49-year-old arrived as Hodgson’s replacement after the veteran boss elected to step away from his position following a difficult few months at the club and fan protests in the stands.
The plan had been for Glasner to take charge in the summer but that was brought forward, with the former Eintracht Frankfurt coach taking charge of a team in the middle of a season for the first time in his career.
The hope is that he can get Crystal Palace performing once again and drag them away from the relegation battle, which had been threatening to drag them in following a series of disappointing results.
Replacing Hodgson, who has managed Crystal Palace for a combined 200 games over two spells, is no mean feat but it seems Glasner is keen the job and is already making big changes.
“I said to the owners here that I’m not interested in just being in the league. It’s about being successful in the Premier League – that’s what drives me,” he said.
“I find a team that I think will keep up with it. The team was used to having two days off a week and we eliminated one day off.
“There was no grumbling, but the guys said: ‘Yeah, cool, you want to work with us, you want to give us something.’ There was positive feedback and that makes it easier for us.”
