Pierre-Emile Højbjerg has a year left on his contract at Tottenham Hotspur, and it’s not clear if he will be at the north London club beyond the summer window.
Ange Postecoglou didn’t use the midfielder regularly in the recently concluded season. He was restricted to 1,486 minutes from 39 games, which included only eight league starts.
The Tottenham player has caught the attention of a few clubs, and Fenerbahçe are added to this list, according to Ajansspor.
Fenerbahçe have appointed José Mourinho as their new manager, and he knows the 28-year-old well from his time at Spurs. The Portuguese tactician has requested his new club sign Højbjerg in the next window.
Mourinho believes the Denmark international’s experience and qualities could benefit the Yellow Canaries.
Karar also says Mourinho has asked the Istanbul club to recruit the Tottenham midfielder. They add that Fenerbahçe board member Acun Ilıcalı has ‘started official contacts’ to sign him.
Ilıcalı has travelled to London and has ‘started negotiations’ with Spurs for the Dane. It’s claimed the Fenerbahçe official has ‘mobilised all means to complete Højbjerg’s transfer’.
The Turkish club finished second in the table, three points behind winners Galatasaray. They want to win the league next season, and Karar state Fenerbahçe see Højbjerg as a vital player to help them achieve this.
