The owner of Ascoli Francesco Bellini has confirmed via the club’s website that his sporting director Francesco Marroccu has left the club.
Marroccu’s departure now opens the door for Leeds United to finally land the Italian after claims yesterday he will be reunited with Massimo Cellino next month.
In a statement made yesterday evening Bellini made it official Marroccu has exited the Serie B side after just 12 months in the role.
Bellini said this was a mutual agreement, and came about because Marroccu couldn’t commit to Ascoli full time due to family reasons.
“Marroccu has left by mutual agreement, he did a good job but for family reasons this led him to only staying here only for a few days. He was not able to work full time,” said Bellini on Marroccu’s exit.
Andrea Cardinaletti will now be the man to replace Marroccu at Ascoli, and this will allow the former Cagliari sporting director to head to Leeds United.
Cellino tried last summer to bring in Marroccu before he took the Ascoli job, and a deal should be done in the coming weeks.
