Woyo Coulibaly joined Leicester City from Parma in January 2025 and struggled for regular minutes at the King Power Stadium.
The right-back played 107 minutes from four Premier League matches in the second half of last season.
He lost his place following the Foxes’ relegation to the Championship, and last summer deadline day, Leicester City let him join Sassuolo on loan without an option or obligation to buy.
The Mali international has featured, but not regularly, for the Serie A side as he played 479 minutes from 11 matches in all competitions.
Sassuolo stance on Leicester City player
Last month, Sport Witness covered claims from Italy of all parties considering ending his loan as he didn’t impress many at Sassuolo. That didn’t happen and there has been a U-turn from the Italian club. That’s at least what Africa Foot are now reporting.
The 26-year-old is still at the Italian club, and the report state they could extend his stay beyond this season.
It’s claimed Sassuolo manager Fabio Grosso has ‘expressed strong interest’ in Coulibaly as he is aware of the impact he could have in their backline.
Therefore, Grosso wants to retain the Leicester City man beyond this season. Africa Foot state he asked the Serie A side to evaluate this option, and the latter could please their manager.
Leicester City want summer sale
Coulibaly has no future at Leicester City even though he has a contract with them until 2029. This should certainly please Sassuolo, who have started negotiations with the Championship side.
The outlet further add the Italian club have already prepared an offer to buy him from Leicester City, without mentioning a figure.
His performances for Mali at AFCON resulted in Napoli, VfL Wolfsburg, Real Sociedad and Marseille contacting his agent. As things stand, Sassuolo are ahead and well placed to retain him.
That’s because Leicester City, as per Africa Foot, want to finalise Coulibaly’s sale in the next window. He will have to find another club if Sassuolo can’t find an agreement with him and the Foxes.
