Ligue 1 side Lyon made a late attempt for the signing of Arsenal winger Willian, according to reports from Brazil and France.

Outlet L’Equipe was the first to report it. They said the offer from arrived ‘a little late’, as he already had an agreement to join Corinthians. Now the French side are looking for other targets.

A little latter, UOL confirmed that there was ‘last hour offer’ to sign the 33-year-old, and that was not accepted.

Lyon tried to sign Willian on a two-year deal on the condition he could leave Arsenal for free. And even though he’d like to continue playing in Europe, he turned down the offer.

Willian is said to have an agreement with Corinthians, and since he’s already given the club his word, he’s not taking a step back, as he’s expected to fly to Brazil today.

As written by the Brazilian media today, Corinthians are waiting for Arsenal to release a statement on the termination of Willian’s contract. Only then the São Paulo club will be able to announce the signing.

According to ESPN Brasil reporter João Castelo Branco, the rescission with the Gunners has already been signed.
