Sergio Gómez is currently the only recognised left-back at Manchester City while manager Pep Guardiola relied upon a few others in the same position last season. This is likely one of the positions the Citizens will address in the summer window.
The Premier League winners have shown interest in Barcelona’s Alejandro Balde and also taken steps to sign him.
That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who state Manchester City have made a bid to buy the 19-year-old.
It’s stated an ‘offer arrived from the Etihad Stadium’ and it included a salary much higher than what the Catalan club are planning to offer him to sign an extension. Despite this, Balde hasn’t considered leaving for Manchester City.
Mundo say the defender is so keen to succeed at Barca that he doesn’t even want to know the efforts put in by Guardiola’s side to try to secure his services. His agent Jorge Mendes has also advised him to continue at the Camp Nou.
The report says ‘everything is discussed’ between Balde and Barca sporting director Mateu Alemany over his extension. This would force Manchester City to look elsewhere to strengthen the left-back position in this window.
