AS Roma are looking for a new sporting director, and Leeds United’s Victor Orta has been linked with the role over the past couple of days.

The Italian side want someone to purely concentrate on transfers, and not have wide ranging powers. When Monchi left and returned to Sevilla, it was reported in both the Spanish and Italian media that he’d found it difficult to work at Roma.

There’d been interference in his work and he didn’t feel like he was given enough trust. From Roma’s perspective, there was disappointment that he wasn’t able to have the same impact there which he’d had at Sevilla previously.

Gazzetta dello Sport report it ‘seems difficult’ for Roma to offer the role to Orta, given he’s previously worked very closely with Monchi and doesn’t have experience with Serie A clubs.

Orta worked with Mochi at Sevilla and has repeatedly spoken about his relationship with his compatriot. The Leeds United transfer guru will therefore know all about the issues Monchi faced whilst at Roma.

With Gazzetta suggesting Orta could be ruled out, there’s every chance he’d turn the role down anyway.

Having helped get Leeds United to the Premier League it would seem a risky step to then give all of that up to move to a club where his mentor struggled.
