River Plate youngster Nicolás de la Cruz has refused to comment on rumours suggesting Manchester City are keen on signing him.
Several reports across the last month have suggested that City, who spend most of their time hoovering up talent from around the world, were targeting the 22-year-old.
He’s impressed with River Plate this season and one report suggested that he was ‘very close to leaving’ for the Etihad, with another insisting ‘advanced negotiations’ were underway.
That has since been rubbished, as TNT journalist Nicolás Distasio claimed that any talk of a £25m bid were very much wide of the mark.
And it seems the midfielder is positively not thinking about it at this moment in time, insisting he is only focused on River when explicitly asked about the Manchester City rumours.
“My head is in River, in tomorrow’s game,” he told TNT Sports.
“Then, I’ll be on vacation with my family and on January 2, we start with the whole preseason.
“I am very calm, happy and satisfied. I found a very comfortable place in the club (River). Obviously one always aspires to more, but today I am very calm in River, and I feel happy.”
While hardly a come and get me plea, that last line about aspiring to more should certainly have Manchester City interested.
It shows the player is already thinking about the next step and moving to the Etihad would undoubtedly represent an upward trajectory.
