Alberto Moreno signed for Liverpool in 2014, after months of links regarding an exit from Sevilla.

Born in the locality of the Spanish club, it was a huge and emotional step for the player, and he took some time finding his feet at Anfield. The 29-year-old probably didn’t have as much impact at the Premier League club as he and others had hoped for, but the transfer certainly wasn’t a total failure and he has some bright points to look back on.

Moreno did his best to develop a strong relationship with Liverpool fans, and that has continued since he left Anfield. When he won the Europa League last season with Villarreal, beating Manchester United in the final, he made some references to the rivalry between the reds and Red Devils.

Still at Villarreal, having moved there in 2019, the left sided player has made 31 appearances so far this season, scoring six goals and adding four assists along the way.

Unai Emery is his manager, and in a chat with AS, Moreno was asked to compare his current boss to Jurgen Klopp, and said: “Emery and Klopp are similar, very professional, very obsessed with everything, tactics and everything. The truth is that they are two technicians of a very high level.”

Enjoying a good period with his current club, Moreno added: “I am in the best moment of my career. I have always been attacking. They converted me into a winger in the Sevilla subsidiary and already in Liverpool I played both things (fullback and wing). Now with the experience I see everything better. I read everything and look for my best option.”
