Lionel Messi getting injured is big news in Spain. There have already been countless articles about the footballer’s groin injury since he left the pitch against Atletico Madrid.
Some of the coverage is pretty impressive, the Spanish media often provide graphics explaining injuries, and get genuine expert opinion on what the outcome will be.
Marca explain on Friday that Messi has torn an adductor muscle by just over 2 centimetres, it will force him into a period of complete rest, the length of which differs slightly from report to report.
The bigger question is when the Argentine international will return for Barcelona. The Messi plan is to be in perfect condition for the match against Manchester City on October 19th.
That would involve coming on in the second half against Deportivo La Coruna a few days earlier.
Argentina play World Cup Qualifiers against Peru and Paraguay before then, it will be interesting to see what the Barcelona reaction is should Messi be called up.
Marca don’t mention that, but clearly believe it’s unlikely, saying Messi wants to be ready for Manchester City ‘but not at any price’.
‘Objetivo Guardiola’ is in motion.
