Attracting the interest of Pep Guardiola is certainly something to make a footballer happy.
It’s what has reportedly happened to Brazilian midfielder Fred, who faced Manchester City for Shakhtar Donetsk this season in the Champions League.
The player had good displays against the English club, and that was a reason why, according to the British press, he would have become a target for the Manchester City manager.
Fred is now on vacation in Brazil, where he’s been helping out with local good causes, and gave some interviews to the local press.
“The objective is to go to England. There’s some speculation, we are seeing what is the best way for us. With God’s will, it’s going to be all right,” Fred said live on TV.
Then he spoke to Globo Esporte’s website: “England has the most disputed league in the world, I have the wish to play there. It could fit me well. It would be important to play the English league with one of the great managers. It’s a dream I have.
“A great manager like Guardiola and a great team like City that has been doing this job this year. Surely I would grow a lot with him. I have a lot to grow.”
On how he took the rumour, he said: “For me it was well received, especially on Christmas Eve. Now I’ll continue doing my work for Shaktar so then, yes, I’ll be well seen by everyone.”
Hopefully for Fred, the claims for Guardiola interest weren’t simply assumptions.
