Sweden manager Jon Dahl Tomasson won’t be able to rely upon Newcastle United’s Emil Krafth for November’s international break.
The Blue and Yellow face Slovakia and Azerbaijan in the UEFA Nations League. The 30-year-old was called up for these two fixtures, but he has been forced to withdraw from the squad.
This has been confirmed by the Sweden’s football association on their official website. The national team players will arrive in Marbella on Monday.
They state both the right-back and FC St. Pauli’s Eric Smith won’t be joining the rest of the group in Spain “due to injuries”. There’s no mention of the details of the nature of the setback suffered by the Newcastle player.
It’s clear that Krafth won’t be fit for Sweden’s upcoming two matches. Therefore, Jon Dahl Tomasson has decided to replace the defender and Smith with Bologna’s Emil Holm and AS Roma’s Samuel Dahl.
On Sunday, the Magpies came from behind to seal a 3-1 win over Nottingham Forest in the league. Eddie Howe didn’t include the Sweden international in his squad.
Krafth has played three times in the Premier League this season. He hasn’t made a league appearance for Newcastle since their win over Tottenham Hotspur on September 1st.
