Nottingham Forest have shown concrete interest in Santiago Giménez and tabled a €25m offer, which was rejected by Feyenoord.

On Tuesday, journalist Martijn Krabbendam reported the Reds would figure out a way to find an agreement with Feyenoord, if they were to raise their offer.

Later that day, Voetbal International stated Nottingham Forest are expected to make a new bid this week.

AS in Mexico backs that up, after pointing out the Eredivisie side have rejected the €25m bid. They have also relayed the latest updates provided by journalist Gustavo Mendoza to Fox Sports Mexico.

He says Nuno Espírito Santo’s side were in ‘very advanced’ negotiations to sign the striker this summer. The deal, however, ‘fell apart at the last minute’.

Mendoza hasn’t mentioned or indicated why Nottingham Forest’s deal collapsed. He says the Mexico international will stay at Feyenoord, at least until the end of this year.

“At the weekend, I had received calls from the board and the manager of Nottingham Forest,” he said.

“There was the question of whether he would accept the offer from Nottingham Forest, there was an important advance, but everything stopped again. At the moment they are about to sleep in the Netherlands, Santiago Giménez is further away from the Premier League.”

This means the 23-year-old is unlikely to join the Premier League side before the window closes next week, but it’s football so anything can happen.

It remains to be seen whether Mendoza’s claim will be backed up in the Netherlands and England in the next few hours.
