Last month, multiple reports coming out of Portugal mentioned Nottingham Forest as one of the clubs showing interest in Benfica’s Alejandro Grimaldo.

The 27-year-old’s deal expires in June and on March 14th, O Jogo reported the Eagles are preparing a new offer to fend off interest from the Tricky Trees.

A week later, A Bola explained Nottingham Forest are waiting for the left-back’s decision on his future.

On March 24th, the same outlet explained the Premier League side have already made an approach for him.

With multiple claims of Steve Copper’s side wanting to sign the Spaniard for free in the next window, Portuguese journalist Pedro Sepúlveda has provided an update on his future plans.

Benfica’s desire to hold on to the defender is unlikely to be successful as Sepúlveda says he ‘will leave’ the club as a free agent in the summer. As it stands, he hasn’t informed his decision to the Primeira Liga side’s president, Rui Costa.

Grimaldo wanting to leave Benfica would come as a boost for Nottingham Forest to secure his services for free after this season.

He’s scored five goals and registered 13 assists from 44 matches in all competitions this season.
