Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest have ‘suddenly appeared’ in the race for midfielder Mikel Amondarain, providing competition to Bologna.

Tuttomercatoweb report information from Il Resto del Carlino regarding the 21-year-old today. They state that Nottingham Forest had been ‘acting in the shadows’ for the Estudiantes midfielder.

Bologna concerns

The newspaper explains that Bologna are urgently seeking a new midfielder this summer and had targeted Mikel Amondarain.

A deal appeared to be on course, but complications have arisen in the race for the 21-year-old Argentine. While a deal seemed close, there was no financial agreement between Bologna and Estudiantes for him.

The Argentine club have refused to offer a discount on their €9-10m valuation. That opened the door for other suitors, namely Nottingham Forest.

According to the newspaper, they have ‘suddenly entered the race’ for Amondarain’s signature. They had been ‘acting in the shadows’ for a week, working on a deal while Bologna stalled. Now the Italian side’s management have been left keeping their fingers crossed.

€9-10m fee

But the reality is that once a Premier League team gets involved, negotiations for players become ‘exponentially more complicated’. They believe that will be the case in their efforts to sign Amondarain.

It seems that they believe Nottingham Forest are now at the front of the queue for the Argentine’s signature.

Oliver Glasner’s side have money to spare following the sale of Elliot Anderson to Manchester City. They need to reinforce their midfield this summer and have the funds to do it. They certainly have the funds to not be too concerned about Estudiantes requesting €9-10m for their player.

Whether that puts them at the front of the queue, remains to be seen. Bologna certainly feel that they’re now due to miss out after Nottingham Forest made their move from the shadows.
