Nottingham Forest ‘could return’ for Real Betis midfielder Guido Rodriguez after trying to sign him this summer.
That’s according to Estadio Deportivo, who say if they do make another bid for the Argentine, they may find both he and Betis more open to a deal.
The newspaper explains that the midfielder has not yet decided on the next step in his career, which means he has not ruled out a move away from Betis, perhaps even in January.
He had options to leave this summer, as he did last summer, and Nottingham Forest were one of the sides who were keen on him as they continued building Steve Cooper’s squad.
He decided against a move as he is comfortable and feels valued in Heliópolis, while his wife, Guadalupe, is pregnant and he doesn’t want to disturb her or the rest of his family at this time.
That will have changed by next year, though, and Betis would be more than happy to sell for a figure of €15m, despite him being valued at double that. The Spanish side only own 70% of the midfielder as it is.
Indeed, Estadio have been able to discover that there are efforts being made within the club to sign Rodriguez to a new deal with a release clause included for July next year.
That would allow the player to significantly improve his wages this season and then get him the move he wants next year in a deal that benefits everyone. His agents are yet to provide a response to those plans, with the player instead focusing on international duty with Argentina.
After that it will be a time to focus on the season and what lies ahead, with it believed the likes of Nottingham Forest and Barcelona ‘could return to the fray for him’.
They would likely have to wait until next summer, particularly due to his wife’s pregnancy, but Rodriguez is certainly a name to keep an eye on despite that.
