Nottingham Forest have reached an agreement in principle for the arrival of Lorenzo Lucca.

The Premier League club have been interested for all of January, one of multiple sides considering taking Lucca away from Naples. As well as Nottingham Forest, FC Porto and Benfica have also been keen.

The latter two, especially Porto, have repeatedly been credited with efforts by the Portuguese media. Nottingham Forest have now pushed ahead of both.

Gianluca Di Marzio reports Sean Dyche’s side have reached an agreement in principle with Napoli. The transfer to the City Ground would be on the basis of a loan, with an option to buy likely to be included.

Lorenzo Lucca himself now gets to make a decision over whether he wants to join Nottingham Forest. The giant 25-year-old, who stands at just over two metres, is also receiving interest within Italy.

Pisa are keen, but they’re currently 19th out of 20 in Serie A and not looking great for survival. Lucca was at Pisa from 2021 to 2024, however, he spent much of his time out on loan.

Nottingham Forest target wants more prominence

This season, the Nottingham Forest target has been used regularly by Antonio Conte, although not as a prominent player. He’s made 22 appearances for Napoli, but those matches have amounted to less than 700 minutes. Lucca has scored twice across that time.

With Italy potentially qualifying for the World Cup, the dream of making it there will be motivating the transfer.

CalcioNapoli24 also cover a battle between Nottingham Forest and Pisa to convince Lucca. He’s expected to make a decision within a week. There’s also some claims of the Premier League club offering €1m for the loan and a €35m option.

That fee is inflated, yet it doesn’t matter so much if it’s only an option.
