Last week, it was reported that Everton are willing to make an offer for Strasbourg’s Habib Diarra. It now seems as if Nottingham Forest have joined the race for the 21-year-old.

ASRomaLive have reported today that the Friedkin family, who also own AS Roma, are serious about bringing Diarra to Goodison Park as they want to introduce themselves to Everton fans through a major new signing.

At the same time, Nottingham Forest will provide ‘strong’ competition in the chase, with Strasbourg currently demanding over €20m to sell the attacking midfielder this month.

There is also interest from AC Milan, but Everton and Nottingham Forest are said to be more credible challengers for the Senegal international.

The situation seems more enticing for the Toffees and the Friedkins because Diarra’s arrival can directly impact Abdoulaye Doucoure, who is liked by Roma. The new signing is seen as an ‘ideal replacement’ for the 32-year-old Mali international.

The feeling is that if Everton do sign Diarra, it could be give the ‘green light’ for Doucoure’s move to Roma and the move can be made easier due to the common ownership.
