Nottingham Forest’s Igor Jesus has expressed his delight at being back with the Brazil national team. The striker is already eyeing a spot at the 2026 World Cup.

The 24-year-old, who left Botafogo to join Forest earlier this year, was called up for the first time under Carlo Ancelotti. He’s spoken to Itatiaia Esporte about the milestone.

“I’m happy to wear the national team shirt again. As I’ve said, every player dreams of being here. I hope to do a great job so I can come back more often,” Igor Jesus said.

He has been in fine form for Nottingham Forest since his summer arrival. Though not yet a regular starter under Ange Postecoglou, he’s made an impact whenever called upon. That’s shown by scoring four goals in nine appearances so far, including a brace against Real Betis in the Europa League.

His physical presence and aerial strength have quickly made him a useful weapon in Forest’s attack, catching Ancelotti’s attention.

Now the striker is part of Ancelotti’s squad for the October international break, with friendlies against South Korea and Japan. Brazil face the South Koreans this Friday (10), at 8am (Brazil time), in Seoul, before travelling to Tokyo to meet Japan next Tuesday (14).

For Igor Jesus, these matches are more than just warm-ups: they are auditions for a place in Ancelotti’s plans for the next World Cup. “It’s a dream for every player to play in it. Each friendly is an opportunity for us to prove ourselves. I hope to do a great job to be in good shape for the 2026 World Cup,” he added.

Brazil have already qualified for the tournament, finishing fifth in the South American qualifiers with 28 points. The lowest total in the country’s history. But for newcomers like Igor Jesus, the next few months could be decisive in shaping their future with the Seleção.
