Werder Bremen are eyeing a move for Nottingham Forest’s Taiwo Awoniyi in the winter market.
That’s according to Africa Foot, and they report the striker is ‘close’ to joining the German club.
He didn’t feature for Nottingham Forest this season until October. The 28-year-old has made four league appearances so far, which includes one start.
Awoniyi hasn’t regained his best form. Nottingham Forest are said to have decided against offering an extension after his setback in May.
In fact, the report states the Nigeria international is no longer part of Nottingham Forest’s core plans.
It’s claimed the two parties met earlier this week, and the Reds have decided to let him leave in January if there’s a ‘satisfactory offer’. There’s no mention of the fee needed to convince Sean Dyche’s side.
The frontman is also open to a move, and his preference is to continue in the Premier League. There’s been no signs of interest from England while Werder Bremen are keen on securing his services.
Werder Bremen manager Horst Steffen admires the Nottingham Forest player and aims to make him a key part of his attack if the two clubs can reach an agreement.
Africa Foot say his move to the Bundesliga club is ‘close’, but it hasn’t been backed up concretely. The feeling is that Awoniyi is set to leave in January and his club won’t stand in the way.
