Nottingham Forest may be getting ready to return to action in the Premier League, but Gustavo Scarpa is still sorting a problem that has been haunting him.
As revealed by the Brazilian media at the start of March, the midfielder lost nearly £1m in a cryptocurrency investment with Xland, and is trying to recover that money.
The latest news on this case is brought by Globo Esporte, who claim that the Nottingham Forest midfielder had a legal win in the case. But that, unfortunately, doesn’t mean a lot.
Firstly, he tried to block the R$5.36m (£840k) he invested from leaving Xland’s bank account, but all the Brazilian courts found there was R$674 (£106).
So Scarpa then went chasing after a suitcase of jewels, that was presented to him at the time of the investments as some sort of guarantee. Back then, he was told it was worth R$2.1bn (£330m).
However, when the court got in touch with the security company which is holding the so called alexandrites, it was found out that Xland only paid R$6k (£940) for them.
Long story short, the company who fooled the Nottingham Forest player doesn’t have the money in hand, nor have the goods, and the player will continue to struggle to recover his investment.
