Last week, before Jorge Sampaoli was announced as the new manager of Flamengo, we saw Nottingham Forest getting linked to the Argentine manager.
It was claimed the Tricky Trees wanted the coach to replace Steve Cooper, who was already on the verge of being sacked by the board.
It turns out that Sampaoli ended up being announced by Flamengo on Friday, and Goal journalist Thiago Fernandes brings some interesting information about Nottingham Forest’s interest.
He claims that the Reds actually wanted the Argentine manager to take the job in the summer.
In other words, Sampaoli could have been pretty much waiting for a job in the Championship, as Nottingham Forest are currently in the relegation zone.
So it’s no surprise that the manager, who already has a house in Rio de Janeiro, ended up choosing to take charge of the Brazilian side, who are one of the strongest in South America.
Nottingham Forest’s attempt for Sampaoli was also reported by Argentine outlet TyC Sports, although they had no information about the date when the coach would take charge of the Premier League side.
