On Friday, following the claims that Nottingham Forest had placed a €25m bid for AS Roma defender Roger Ibanez, his agent said there had been no bid yet.
Even though there were many outlets reporting the offer, the representative turned up to deny it. And we now may get to understand why he said that.
A new story from CalcioMercato.it confirms that Nottingham Forest have been ‘pushing’ to sign Ibanez, but claims the ‘official’ written proposal hasn’t arrived at Roma yet.
It’s said the Reds are indeed very interested and the bid is expected to arrive shortly.
According to the story, only an official offer will lead clubs to a negotiation for a defender. Roma are not keen on selling him, but already set a price of between €25m and €30m.
It’s pointed out that Nottingham Forest ‘certainly’ have the financial power to reach an agreement with the Giallorossi. They’re also expected to attract Ibanez with a higher salary, as he currently makes €1.5m per season at Roma.
Now that may be why the agent acted that way, with the Reds still to show their cards.
