Nottingham Forest will have to ‘dig deep’ to sign defender Renan Lodi permanently from Atletico Madrid this summer, after deciding not to take up a purchase clause in his loan deal.
That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who say that at this moment in time, Lodi ‘will never wear the red and white shirt again’, setting up a summer of negotiations for the player.
Lodi has spent the season on loan at Nottingham Forest and that deal included a purchase clause valued at €40m, but that has now expired, as reports yesterday explained.
Forest allowed that to fall by the wayside as they consider the clause and Atletico’s current valuation of the player to be ‘excessive’, despite their willingness to spend over the last two transfer windows.
Thus, they will ‘have to negotiate from scratch’ with the Spanish side over the defender this summer if they want to keep him permanently.
One deciding factor could be that Lodi himself wants to stay in England, having enjoyed his year at Nottingham Forest so far, particularly after they secured Premier League football for another season with a win over Arsenal on the weekend.
A ‘resolution’ therefore needs to be found that suits all parties, but Atletico have no intention of letting the Brazilian leave on the cheap and those in charge at the City Ground will need to ‘dig deep’ if they are to get their player back on a permanent basis.
