Nottingham Forest may need a record bid to convince Feyenoord to sell Santiago Gimenez, with the Premier League side refusing to give up on the Mexican.
That’s according to journalist Martijn Krabbendam, relayed by 1908, who has provided the latest information on the matter.
Nottingham Forest have been chasing Gimenez over the last week or so, seeing two bids rejected for the highly rated striker.
Reports from the Netherlands have made it clear that they will need to pay a big sum for the forward. They’ve also pointed out that they may need to work hard to convince Gimenez into the move.
That’s not put them off and a report today made it clear that they’re continuing to make bids in the hope of getting Feyenoord and Gimenez to at least sit at the table.
Whether that’s a successful strategy remains to be seen and could be somewhat pointless if Gimenez isn’t overly keen on the idea.
For now, the focus is on getting Feyenoord to at least accept a bid, and Krabbendam reports Nottingham Forest may need to break the Dutch club’s sale record for that to happen.
“They will figure out the transfer fee,” he said.
“I think when Forest pay just a little more than what Brighton paid for Mats Wieffer. If Nottingham Forest offers something more and Gimenez breaks the outgoing transfer record, then Feyenoord is prepared to let him go. The player just has to want that himself.
“I can’t imagine Gimenez not wanting to go there. For him, this is the opportunity to play football in England. Players don’t really want to go to a club, but to the Premier League and Forest is the only club that is concrete. This is his ticket to that competition.
“It is also an opportunity for him to show himself. Suppose he makes fifteen in a season, then perhaps a club like West Ham United will come. This way you can also work on your career if you do not immediately belong to the absolute top. And of course, he will earn four times more there than at Feyenoord.”
